Guinea pig sounds may be gibberish to you and when you first get your guinea pig you might be wondering, what is that guinea pig saying?

Guinea pigs are social animals and like humans, they like to communicate with each other about what is going on in their world.You may have noticed that guinea pigs make a variety of strange noises much more than many other pets this is how they talk to other guinea pigs and with you too.Well you just need to learn their language and with just a bit of ciphering you'll know whether they are happy, sad, or upset.

In alphabetical order
  • Chirrup: The chirrup may mean your guinea pig is upset, or making the noise to attract attention to himself.
  • Chut: A common sound they are happy, sometimes they chut to each other.
  • Chutter: A not so happy guinea they do it when they want to be alone.
  • Drrr: Your guinea pig is scared he may freeze at any moment.
  • Purr: A happy guinea pig, sometimes they purr to each other.
  • Scream: Could be startled or lost a fight with another guinea pig.
  • Squeal: If he is squealing he wants some attending too, it could be major like he is in pain or minor like her cage buddy is sitting in her favorite spot.
  • Tweet: Younger guinea pigs telling mom that they went potty after nursing.
  • Low wheek: Sound the alarm its time to clean the cage.
  • Wheek: It's time to eat and they are so happy you are coming with the food. Sometimes they will wheek when you let them out to play.
  • Whine: If you guinea pig is whining they are very unhappy
